The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) goes all out as it opens its doors to partners and guests for the celebration of the Atomic Energy Week (AEW) 2023 on December 4-7 at the PNRI grounds in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.
With the theme “Gearing up the next generation towards a Nuclear Philippines”, the 51st AEW celebration is made more exciting by the holding of the first ever Philippine Nuclear Science Olympiad. The tilt, open to junior and senior high school students across the country, offers cash prizes, meals, and certificates to the top five awardees. Moreover, the top placer will represent the country in the first ever International Nuclear Olympiad to be held in August next year.

The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is calling Filipino Junior and Senior High School students, or those in Grades 9 to 12, from public or private secondary schools in the Philippines, to join the First Philippine Nuclear Science Olympiad (1st PNSO) to be held this December.
To qualify, participating students must not be more than18 years old and must not be in enrolled or admitted in a university/college by 7 August 2024. This is because the winners in the PNSO will vie in the First International Nuclear Science Olympiad (1st INSO) to be held in the country on 31 July to 07 August 2024. Like the PNSO, the INSO is open only to high school students.

The Atomic Energy Week (AEW) which highlights nuclear science and technology innovations and initiatives over the decades will open on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022. This year marks the 50th AEW celebration, a testament to the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute’s (DOST-PNRI) commitment in sharing to the public the gains and developments in the country’s nuclear S&T sector.
The line-up of speakers in the opening ceremony includes DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr, Ambassador of Denmark to the Philippines and Palau H.E. Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, Department of Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla, DOST Undersecretary for R&D Leah J. Buendia, and Senator Robinhood C. Padilla.

This year’s celebration of the Atomic Energy Week (AEW) will showcase the latest developments in nuclear science and technology, particularly local researches and technologies that address the current needs in the society, especially in the new normal condition. Now on its 49th year, the AEW will be held December 6-10 to be led by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI)
With the theme “Agham at Teknolohiyang Pangnukleyar: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”, the annual event will mostly be held online for everyone’s safety as the country transitions to a more relaxed quarantine classification.

Online is the way to go this season as the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) celebrates the 48th Atomic Energy Week (AEW) from December 7-11, 2020. Throughout the week, the Institute will use the online platform to showcase the latest developments in the local nuclear S&T community.
Comprising virtual events, contests, exhibits, and a research conference, this year’s online celebration will be simulcast across various social media platforms to reach more attendees while ensuring everyone’s safety.
